Santa Susanna is a town on the Catalonian coast about 50km north of Barcelona, considered by some to be part of the famous Costa Brava region of Spain known for its beautiful beaches and eye-catching landscapes. The main part of the town is not located on the coast but the hotel area where you’ll likely be staying is seaside.
How to get there
There’s many ways to get to Sta Susanna which I will get into detail
By train
The main towns up the coast until Blanes are connected by Rodalies regional train R1 line which begins in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and stops in Plaça Catalunya and Arc de Triomf if you’re in Barcelona city proper, buy the corresponding ticket at the kiosk validate it to enter and the train leaves from platform 1, tickets are about 5,95 Euros one way at the time of writing. If you have the under 30 3-month pass it is already included and there’s no need to buy a separate ticket. The total trip time should be around an hour and a half and trains run until 22:45.
By bus
If you prefer to take the bus the company Sagales offers the trip as a stop on its Barcelona to Girona airport line, this is especially convenient if you’ve arrived at the airport either in Barcelona or Girona and want to head straight there just follow the signage to the airport bus stop, its preferable to buy the tickets online through their website or you can acquire them on the bus as well. If you’re in the city center they make various stops in Barcelona including the Arc de Triomf and the central bus station. An advantage of this transport mode is that they also have a night service if you need to get there late at night.
Things to do
You could visit the nearby town of Malgrat de mar where you also have wider variety of restaurants with more local options, as well as just relaxing on the beach which is often sparsely crowded and safe. The town also includes a wide promenade with many different shops and restaurants. Due to its location day trips possible from her include Blanes and Tossa de mar both are easily reachable by bus and are must visit spots on this stretch of coast.
Where to stay
I personally stayed at the Htop summer hotel right on the main promenade its decently priced sometimes you can find rates as low as 60 a night which is a pretty sweet deal!. It has friendly staff and I found rooms to be comfortable ,also has a pool though I did not use during my time there.
