Parc de la Ciutadella

Nestled in the vibrant district of El Born and steps away from the iconic Arc de Triomf , Parc de la Ciutadella is one of Barcelona’s most beloved urban parks. A Brief History

The park sits on the grounds of a former military citadel built in the early 18th century. After the fortress was demolished in the mid-19th century, the area was transformed into a public park in 1872, becoming the city’s first major green space.

The Cascada Fountain: This grand fountain is one of the park’s highlights. Designed by Josep Fontserè, with possible contributions from a young Antoni Gaudí, it features sculptures, waterfalls, and a stunning architectural backdrop.

Barcelona Zoo: Located within the park, the zoo is home to hundreds of species and is a favorite among families and animal lovers.

The Castle of the Three Dragons: This Modernist building houses the Catalan Museum of Zoology and is an architectural gem worth a visit.

How to Get There

The park is easily accessible via the metro (Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica on L4 as well as the Arc de Triomf Station on L1 ), it’s served by many bus lines, or a pleasant walk from the city center.
